We are happy to announce our Fall 2012 CS4HS Workshop for High
School
Teachers in Virginia. Once again, we have funding from Google
for
another CS4HS workshop on November 15-16, 2013 in our Northern
Virginia facilities. We have funding to cover hotel for a few
participants that want to join us from different locations in
the
state.

Apply here: http://highschool.cs.vt.edu/
By this date: Friday October 25th, 2013

As before, the goal of our workshops are:

to provide professional development opportunities to teachers,
to share ideas about teaching computing in high school, and
to create a network of teachers interested in addressing the
shortfall
of computing professionals.

This year, we will focus on Python. We will show how to use
Python in
the classroom within the context of Media Computation and also
show
our early version of Pythy. Pythy is a browser-based Python
that makes
it easy for you to deploy in your classroom as it doesn’t
require any
software installation, supports assignments, automated grading,
and
other classroom specific features.

On Friday night, after the dinner, we will have a brief run
down of
some of the other technologies we have been exploring in the
classroom, including Web-CAT, and Android programming. On
Saturday, we
will devote the morning to Python, and leave the afternoon
available
for more in depth discussion on any of the topics presented or
other
topics that you can request in the registration form.

As usual, we will make the material available to other teachers
after
the workshop.
